The Baltimore Orioles finished the 2023 regular season with the best record in the American League.
For a team that lost 110 games in 2021, winning 101 games this past season was nothing short of amazing.
They put together an incredible lineup with up-and-coming stars such as Adley Rutschman, Anthony Santander, Gunnar Henderson, Cedric Mullins, Heston Kjerstad, Jordan Westburg, and others.
The relief corps was impressive, as well, led by Felix Bautista and Yennier Cano.
The starting rotation? Well, it was perhaps the weaker link, and one of the reasons why they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
The group wasn’t bad at all: it just wasn’t good enough for the specific task at hand.
The Orioles did try to improve the rotation around the deadline, but they could only get Jack Flaherty and he wasn’t very good.
They learned that, in order to really compete in the postseason against the best teams in the American League, they need a stellar rotation.
“The #Orioles are “very active” in trade conversations to upgrade their starting rotation, per @jonmorosi. Morosi notes the #WhiteSox and #Marlins are among the teams Baltimore is speaking with as they pursue starting rotation upgrades,” MLB Deadline News tweeted.

At the moment, they have a solid, young one-two punch in Kyle Bradish and Grayson Rodriguez.
John Means is good, but injury prone, and Dean Kremer is inconsistent.
In addition to that, Cole Irvin shouldn’t be a starter on a team with championship dreams.
Because of that, the O’s have been really active in trade conversations.
Teams want their best prospects in return, though, so that’s probably why they haven’t pulled the trigger.
The Chicago White Sox are eager to trade ace Dylan Cease, but only for the right return.
The Miami Marlins, likewise, could part with Edward Cabrera, Braxton Garrett, or even Jesus Luzardo in the right deal.
Any of those four names would go a long way in improving the Orioles’ rotation.
