Ever since he was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, L’Jarius Sneed has developed into one of the best cornerbacks in the entire league.
This offseason, Sneed was scheduled to become a free agent, but the Chiefs decided to place the franchise tag on him to prevent that from happening.
Kansas City and the 27-year-old cornerback would like to figure out a way to agree to a long-term contract.
But if that is unable to happen, the Chiefs will look to trade Sneed to another team this offseason, and according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins are among those interested in acquiring the cornerback from Kansas City this year (via Dov Kleiman on Twitter).

In 16 games with the Chiefs last season, Sneed accumulated 78 tackles (including five for a loss), 14 pass breakups, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery.
In 2022, Sneed earned the 13th-best defensive grade from PFF among qualifying NFL cornerbacks, and this past season, his defensive grade from PFF dropped to 30th-best among corners around the league.
Kansas City currently only has a little more than $3 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com, so keeping Sneed around for the 2024 season might actually turn out to be something that they are unable to do.
Especially since the Chiefs also have to figure out if they can bring back All-Pro defensive lineman Chris Jones, who is currently scheduled to become a free agent this year.
Will Sneed be back with Kansas City for another season, or will he return to the field in 2024 wearing a different team’s uniform?
