Gerrit Cole’s elbow injury reportedly prompted the New York Yankees to intensify their search for another arm.
They will now miss him for at least a month, and you can feel they are preparing for every scenario.
Since the start of the offseason, the Chicago White Sox haven’t been hiding the fact that Dylan Cease, their ace, is available for trade.
However, they have been asking for the sun and the moon in potential return packages, and were prepared to enter the season with Cease in the rotation.
With the Yankees going to the market again because of the Cole situation, the Sox have received renewed interest in Cease, from New York and other two teams, according to MLB insider Jon Morosi.
“A Dylan Cease trade before Opening Day is seen as plausible, a source told me this morning, based on the volume of recent conversations with the Rangers and Yankees. The Padres also have been involved in talks, as I just reported on @MLBNetwork,” he tweeted.

Morosi goes as far as saying that Cease could potentially be traded before the start of the season, with the Yankees, the Texas Rangers, and the San Diego Padres involved in the sweepstakes.
The Yankees don’t want to include top prospect Spencer Jones in any deal, so that is a huge obstacle for them.
They do have other enticing pieces that may interest Chicago.
The problem for New York is that they have competition.
It’s an ideal scenario for Chicago, who has every intention of getting the absolute best return for their ace.
