During his previous stint as an NFL head coach, Jim Harbaugh led the San Francisco 49ers to a tremendous amount of success in just four seasons between 2011 and 2014.
Now, Harbaugh is back in the league as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, who are hoping he will lead them to a similar amount of success that he was able to help the 49ers achieve.
Jed York is currently the CEO of the 49ers, and he also held the position during Harbaugh’s tenure with the franchise.
York recently shared his thoughts on the former San Francisco head coach and what the Chargers should expect from their newest addition (via ProFootballTalk on Twitter).
“I think Jim is a hell of a coach. I think it’s a great spot for him. I’m excited for the Chargers. I think they will be very, very successful.”

These comments from York are quite interesting since it has long been believed that he was part of the reason for Harbaugh’s departure from the 49ers after the 2014 season.
San Francisco won 69.5 percent of their games with Harbaugh as their head coach, so his tenure being cut short after just four seasons always seemed pretty abrupt.
It will be interesting to see how the Chargers perform in 2024 because their head coach is likely going to have a big chip on his shoulder to prove to York and any other member of San Francisco who played a part in his departure back in 2014.
Unfortunately, the 49ers and Chargers currently aren’t scheduled to play each other until the 2026 season, unless they meet in a Super Bowl before then.
But based on Harbaugh’s previous success as an NFL head coach, along with San Francisco’s current success, that Super Bowl meeting in the near future is certainly a possibility.
