The Texas Rangers made a bold move this past offseason in signing two-time Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom.
deGrom was one of the best pitchers in baseball for a time with the New York Mets.
But, injuries always seemed to derail his season.
That was the case this year when deGrom was forced to get Tommy John surgery.
One thing deGrom loves to do is pitch, and that has been taken away from him too many times.
During his last year as a Met, there were reports that deGrom could not wait to get out of New York.
But, he denied that being true.
According to SNY Mets, deGrom said, “I don’t like when people say that because that’s not true…what I want to do is take the field, play, and then get ready for the next time I play.”
Jacob deGrom talked to the NY Post’s Joel Sherman about the narrative that he couldn’t wait to leave New York:
“I don’t like it when people say that because that’s not true. You know me pretty well — I like to pitch and that’s about it. I understand the other stuff that comes… pic.twitter.com/JkgEQoJf8l

deGrom pitched for the Mets for nine seasons, throwing over 190 innings only four times.
He won the aforementioned two Cy Young awards and made four All-Star teams.
But, when the time came for a new contract it was clear both sides were ready for a change.
The Mets decided to spend their money on Justin Verlander.
While deGrom found the spot where he hoped to end his career in Texas.
This Tommy John surgery makes things difficult, but the hope is that deGrom can return sometime at the end of next season.
Based on team success, it is clear that deGrom made the right choice.
The Rangers are playing in the ALCS while the Mets have been at home all playoffs.
