Heading into the 2023 season, many thought the Detroit Lions were going to be one of the better teams in the league, but no one really thought they were going to begin their schedule with wins in five in their first six games.
Well, that’s exactly what the Lions have done this year under head coach Dan Campbell, and at 5-1, Detroit has quickly emerged as a contender in the NFC.
One big reason for the Lions’ success this year has been the performance of veteran quarterback Jared Goff.
Goff is off to one of his best starts ever since he entered the NFL in 2016, as he’s completed 69.5 percent of his passes for 1,618 yards (269.7 per game), 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions, which has resulted in an impressive passer rating of 105.1.
On Friday, former NFL tight end and current FOX NFL analyst Greg Olsen talked about the success that Goff has been able to have so far this season.
“He’s earned it.. He’s not just ‘participating’ in the Lions success, he is a key engine of what makes them go.”@gregolsen88 on Jared Goff

Olsen also shared that he believes that it would be hard to argue against Goff being one of the top-five candidates for the NFL’s MVP award at this point in the season.
When the Los Angeles Rams traded Goff to Detroit in 2021, it felt like the veteran quarterback was being sent to a place where his career would flame out.
Instead, Goff has made the most of his opportunities, and he looks like a guy the Lions are going to want to keep around a lot longer than they might have originally planned when they traded for him.
