Earlier this week, the Philadelphia Eagles made headlines when they decided to sign All-Pro wide receiver Julio Jones.
Jones hasn’t played a game yet this season, but he’s been in the league since he was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
At 34 years old, Jones obviously isn’t in the prime of his career anymore, but the Eagles clearly believe that he has something useful to offer their team at this point in the season.
On Friday, Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni talked about the possibility of Jones playing in the team’s game on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins (via Dave Uram on Twitter).
“You’re going to be tempted to want to put [Jones] in because he’s a phenomenal player that’s done a lot in this league. But we’re going to have to make sure that we’re not putting him in danger.”
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni says Julio Jones looks good and it’s exciting he’s on the team.

Jones currently ranks 23rd in NFL history in career catches and 16th all-time in career receiving yards.
Despite his overall career success, the veteran wide receiver hasn’t been as productive during his last two seasons in the league as a member of the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
With the Titans in 2021, Jones only accumulated 31 catches for 434 yards and one touchdown in 10 games.
Then, with the Bucs last season, he finished with 24 receptions for 299 yards and two scores in 10 appearances.
So Jones likely isn’t about to become an integral part of the Eagles’ passing attack, but the team knows that and they’re not expecting that from him.
The veteran can still be of use to Philadelphia this season, even if the biggest impact he makes is inside the meeting room with some of the team’s younger playmakers.
