The Jacksonville Jaguars scored a clutch win on Thursday against the New Orleans Saints, 31-24, improving their record to 5-2.
Some people, such as FS1’s Nick Wright, feel they’re becoming or are already an elite team, especially since they also finished last season with a flurry by winning seven of their last nine games.
But Wright’s colleague Chris Broussard isn’t convinced the Jaguars are all that, saying there are five teams in the AFC that are better while saying he’s “a tad disappointed” in quarterback Trevor Lawrence, via “First Things First.”
“The Chiefs, Bengals, Ravens, Dolphins and Bills are better than the Jaguars. And I’m a tad disappointed in Trevor Lawrence. I’m expecting him to become elite.”

Broussard pointed to the fact that Lawrence’s passing numbers haven’t been very impressive this season, as well as the fact that Jacksonville plays in a weak AFC South division.
Lawrence completed 20 of 29 passes for just 204 yards and one touchdown on Thursday, but that one touchdown pass came with 3:08 left in the fourth quarter.
The Saints were subsequently able to get into the red zone, but two shots at the end zone thrown by QB Derek Carr were unsuccessful.
Part of Broussard’s argument also has to do with the fact that statistically, they haven’t been that impressive this year, and their passing defense has been particularly poor.
Offensively, they rank in the middle of the pack in several categories.
Overall, the Jaguars are a young team, and while they have firepower in running back Travis Etienne and wide receivers Christian Kirk and Calvin Ridley, they will likely have some more growing up to do before they can call themselves true Super Bowl contenders.
