The Pittsburgh Steelers are cooking up one of the more interesting quarterback battles in training camp so far, even though signs point to Russell Wilson being the starter and Justin Fields being the backup, which has been the plan since Day One when they brought Russ to town.
However, one analyst isn’t so sure that it’s the best course of action and believes Wilson isn’t the guy to lead the offense.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers will do more if Justin Fields is their starting quarterback than they ever will with Russell Wilson,” John Fanta of CBS said on “The Carton Show.”

Fanta said that Wilson is over the hill and close to retirement, which is certainly a valid argument given the two years he just had with the Denver Broncos.
This is likely the most interesting quarterback competition in the league at the moment, and it might not be a competition at all if the team has 100 percent committed to Wilson as the starter.
However, observers are once again falling victim to the tantalizing idea of Fields, who has proven to be one of the most dynamic runners in the open field from the QB position and shows off a rocket arm from time to time when he stands in the pocket.
That being said, since entering the league with the Chicago Bears, the idea of Fields has always been better than the reality of Fields. Until he shows that he can be more than just an exciting athlete, it’s best to simply wait and see if he can prove himself capable of being a consistent, winning quarterback.
