Zach Wilson has not had an ideal start to his career as a No. 2 overall pick just three years ago, and he now finds himself taking reps with the third team for the Denver Broncos, who acquired him in a trade with the New York Jets this offseason in hopes of reviving his career after three lackluster seasons in New York.
When recently asked about how he feels about taking third-team reps, Wilson took the right approach and responded in the best way possible.
“I don’t have control over that situation … just trying to stack good days,” Wilson said, via Broncos beat reporter Zac Stevens.

Last season, Wilson was thrust back into the QB1 role for the Jets just a few plays into Week 1 after Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles, and it looked like his last chance to prove himself as a starter in the league.
He fell flat once again, as he put up just 2,271 passing yards and eight touchdowns to go with seven interceptions across 12 games while taking 46 sacks.
Denver is heading into the preseason with Jarrett Stidham listed as its starter, though many expect the current No. 3 QB and No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Bo Nix, to eventually win the starting job.
Wilson may be taking third-team reps, but he is still listed as the backup even though he has little to no chance of winning this QB competition.
But maybe Broncos head coach Sean Payton can unlock something in Wilson and get him to tap into the talent that made him the No. 2 overall pick in the first place.
