Of the teams that made the 2023 postseason in MLB, the Arizona Diamondbacks were tied with the Miami Marlins with the fewest regular-season wins, with 84.
Still, that didn’t stop them from eliminating the NL Central champions, the Milwaukee Brewers, in the Wild Card round, or the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Division Series.
The regular season and the playoffs are two separate entities for a reason: to give everyone who earned a spot a chance.
The Diamondbacks have a good pitching staff, a solid bullpen, some really good, talented young hitters, and got hot at the right time.
Now, they are one win away from the Fall Classic, which would be their first appearance there since 2001.
D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo knows that the D-Backs did sneak into the playoffs through a small window.
That, however, doesn’t mean they can’t dream big or that they don’t deserve a place in the World Series.
“To criticism about their 84 win regular season, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said: ‘We feel like we deserve to be in the Big Dance,’” MLB insider Jon Heyman tweeted, quoting Arizona’s skipper.

They entered the National League Championship Series as underdogs, just like it has happened all playoffs.
And there they are, tied at three victories with the Philadelphia Phillies and clinging to their hopes of making one additional series.
The Diamondbacks will trust rookie right-hander Brandon Pfaadt for the franchise’s biggest start in over 20 years.
Philadelphia will go with lefty Ranger Suarez, but all hands will be on deck.
It should be a fascinating showdown.
