During the first five weeks of the 2023 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers looked unbeatable as the team was playing some of the best football of anyone in the league.
However, the 49ers have managed to drop two consecutive games with their most recent loss coming against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.
It was another dispiriting performance from San Francisco who was unable to get any pressure on Kirk Cousins and offensively struggled to hit on many explosive plays.
Christian McCaffrey managed to gut out his oblique injury and score twice, but the rest of the team was relatively quiet.
Even without Deebo Samuel, the 49ers had enough to get the job done against a middling Vikings defense but failed to do so.
Although San Francisco is going through a bit of a rough patch, Colin Cowherd still believes they’ll advance deep into the postseason, via “The Herd.”
“I think I know how this is going to end for San Francisco. They’re going to be in the NFC championship or the Super Bowl and you’re going to be discouraged,” Cowherd said.

Cowherd explains that San Francisco struggles to come from behind in games because of their offensive style and the limitations of Brock Purdy, who had another subpar game.
There’s some truth to this as teams under Kyle Shanahan have preferred to control time of possession and allow their defense to hold opposing teams at bay.
However, Shanahan and his coaching staff have to go back to the drawing board and figure out a way to get back on track as these past two weeks have put their contender status into question.
