The Indianapolis Colts‘ 2023 season started with promise.
Anthony Richardson was playing well to begin the year, energizing the fanbase and beginning his tenure as their franchise QB.
However, disaster struck when it was announced that Richardson would miss the rest of the season due to an AC joint injury.
While this situation had a lot of unknowns at the time, Jim Irsay recently provided a positive update regarding Richardson.
In a two-part statement issued on Twitter, Irsay indicated that Richardson’s surgery was a success and that everything turned out as anticipated.
URGENT NFL/COLTS NEWS:
#5 QB Anthony Richardson’s surgery today in LA was a success! It was a long procedure and his shoulder injury has been repaired. No new surprises were found during surgery – they just repaired what was expected. Anthony is doing well and thanks everyone…— Jim Irsay (@JimIrsay) October 25, 2023
Irsay also mentioned that Richardson does not have a specific return timeline.
While Colts fans are in disarray about their rookie being out for the season, they can take solace in the fact that his surgery went well.
With any luck, Richardson will not suffer any setbacks, and he can start the 2024 season without any pain or additional issues.
The Colts were able to draft Richardson in the first place due to their performance in the 2022 season.
Without him for the rest of the year, the team’s record could put them in a position to have another top-10 pick in the 2024 draft.
For a class that is said to be loaded with receiver and quarterback talent, this would put the Colts in a favorable standing moving forward.
Richardson could get an elite receiver on this roster, helping him succeed when he returns to play.
For now, it’s up to Gardner Minshew who holds the keys to the Colts’ offense.
