The New York Yankees are in the process of evaluating how they approach the game of baseball, how much weight analytics have in their decisions, and how to optimize resources to play to the best of their abilities.
That process is not necessarily quick, but everybody in the organization hopes to do better than an 82-80 record next year.
For now, the expectation is that GM Brian Cashman and skipper Aaron Boone will both retain their positions.
However, the hitting coach won’t be back.
“Sean Casey announced on his podcast ‘The Mayors Office’ that he will not be returning as Yankees hitting coach for family reasons,” Yankees insider Joel Sherman tweeted.

Casey, who had a long, successful career as an MLB player, had taken over hitting coaching duties, replacing the analytics-oriented Dillon Lawson, who was fired in the middle of the season.
Now, the brief Yankees – Casey marriage is over by the former player’s decision.
The Yankees offense never really took off with Lawson or Casey.
Things improved a bit when Aaron Judge got used to game speed again and when rookies such as Jasson Dominguez and Austin Wells were called up.
Still, the Yankees’ offense was perhaps the most disappointing part of their season.
According to The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty, Casey “was a favorite among Yankees veterans, but there was some disconnect between his teachings and what was taught in the minors.”
Kuty added that said disconnect could have played a role, at least in part, with second-half struggles by some of the prospects and young guys.

Now, in addition to improving the roster and, specifically, the offense, the Yanks will need to bring in a hitting coach.
