For most of the 2023 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers have been dubbed the best all-around team in the league, with a high-powered offense backed up by Nick Bosa and a lockdown defense.
Unfortunately, the 49ers have not been the same team they were in the first five weeks of the season over the last two weeks, as they have suffered losses to the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings in consecutive weeks.
The loss to the Browns was surprising because Cleveland didn’t have Deshaun Watson under center, but San Francisco lost Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Trent Williams to injuries.
Last week, the Vikings, who were in the running for being one of the worst teams in the league, were able to get the best of Brock Purdy and company, which really set off the sirens in San Francisco.
Now, Joy Taylor of FOX Sports believes that the 49ers are in trouble moving forward and used a scary movie analogy that’s pretty on point to describe the situation for Kyle Shanahan and company, via “Speak” on FS1.

“They’re in the part of the movie where they seen the scary house on the corner. They saw the little shadowy figure walk by the window but they didn’t go over yet.” pic.twitter.com/PcFp9bMWb1

As if the injuries weren’t already piling up for the once-dominant 49ers, Purdy is now in concussion protocol and likely won’t be ready to play against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend.
Even though Sam Darnold has proven to be a formidable backup, San Francisco was already struggling with the starter, and it could be more of the same on Sunday, even though the 49ers are currently favored to come out on top at home.
If the 49ers lose to the Bengals, who have struggled all season long, especially on their home field, it could be panic mode for San Francisco with the Seattle Seahawks creeping up the NFC West standings.
