The Baltimore Ravens are Lamar Jackson’s team, without a single doubt.
Even when there were doubts about his future with the organization, the franchise never actually considered another option to lead their offense.
However, just five years ago, that wasn’t the case.
Joe Flacco was there and was their Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
Knowing that his end was coming and with a superstar prospect slipping in the NFL Draft, the Ravens took Jackson out of Louisville, and Flacco may not have liked that.
In the latest edition of his podcast, Robert Griffin III revealed that being in that QB room was “awkward” because of the relationship — or lack thereof — between Flacco and Jackson (via Dov Kleiman).

Griffin explained that the Ravens actually had to keep him there as the third-string QB to mentor Lamar because Flacco wasn’t mentoring him or reaching out to him; he was just sort of leading by example.
As you may know by now, the Ravens went on to trade Flacco to the Denver Broncos the next year, and the rest is history.
Jackson became an MVP and one of the best quarterbacks in the game, and Flacco finished his career without people batting an eye.
It’s not unusual to see veterans refusing to mentor their potential replacements; their competitive spirit won’t let them.
But leaders actually embrace that role and realize that they can make a bigger impact by helping their teams succeed in the future, even if some are either unwilling or unable to realize that.
