The San Francisco Giants are aligning their upcoming contention window.
In 2023, the team missed the postseason and finished with a 79-83 record.
For most of the second half, however, they were actually contenders for one of the Wild Card spots in the National League.
The end product, however, was a losing season with a disappointing record, so manager Gabe Kapler was fired.
There is a new era beginning in the Bay Area, as they hired Bob Melvin to be their skipper on a three-year deal.
As it turns out, head of baseball Farhan Zaidi will also sign a three-year deal, as ownership appears to be engineering a three-year contention plan with both men leading it.
“Bob Melvin’s contract is through 2026. Farhan Zaidi is also in agreement to be extended through 2026, Greg Johnson said,” Giants insider Andrew Baggarly tweeted.

Since last year, the Giants have been trying to lure a top free agent to aid their project, without much luck.
They first tried to bring in Aaron Judge, but he ended up re-signing with the New York Yankees.
Then, they made an attempt to sign Carlos Correa, but a health issue ended up collapsing the deal and he went to Minnesota.
The Giants have a few excellent players signed for 2024 season, and some even beyond that.
Logan Webb is a bona fide ace signed to a long-term deal, and Michael Conforto, Anthony DeSclafani, Taylor Rogers, Mitch Haniger, Alex Cobb, Wilmer Flores, and Mike Yastrzemski are under contract next year.
Still, this team needs a few more impact contributors, especially on offense, to have a chance in the increasingly tough NL West.
