The San Francisco 49ers are currently on a three-game losing streak, a trend they are looking to stop as soon as possible.
Their most recent loss was a blowout, falling 31-17 to the Cincinnati Bengals.
After this game, head coach Kyle Shanahan made his feelings very clear, opening up about the loss.
According to reporter Rob Lowder, Shanahan said, “This isn’t on any coach or side of the ball,” adding, “We haven’t scored over 20 points in three weeks, too.”
Kyle Shanahan:
“This isn’t on any coach or side of the ball. We haven’t scored over 20 points in three weeks, too. Our defense needs to do better. Our offense needs to do better. Our team needs to do better. By team I mean every single player and every single coach.” #49ers— Rob Lowder (@Rob_Lowder) October 29, 2023
Shanahan seems to understand that the 49ers’ struggles are not tied to one specific player or coach.
Their struggles have seemingly been across the board, resulting in losses to teams that they weren’t expecting, including a loss against the Cleveland Browns.
For a team that was expected to contend for the top spot in the NFC, the 49ers’ recent struggles are surprising.
Brock Purdy quickly became a fan favorite last year for his dominant play, but in the 49ers’ skid, he has thrown more interceptions than touchdown passes.
This has resulted in a poor output from the offense, which seemed to be on a roll when the season started.
With any luck, this team will get back on track for the rest of the season, hoping to find themselves back in the playoffs.
Their next three opponents are the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Seattle Seahawks, one of their division rivals.
Each of these three teams presents a unique challenge for the 49ers, potentially putting themselves into an even tougher situation.
