The Denver Broncos held the Kansas City Chiefs to just nine points.
It was the first time that the Chiefs scored fewer than 13 points since a 3-point performance against the Tennessee Titans in 2021, and just the second time they failed to score at least 13 points in a game since Mahomes became a starter.
That’s no coincidence at all, as Denver had already shown signs of having the Chiefs’ number in their first encounter this season.
And while the Chiefs still managed to score 19 points in that game, 12 of those points came from field goals.
That’s why Patrick Mahomes was concerned about how other teams could take a page out of the Broncos’ book, as it’s become evident that they know how to keep them in check:
“Teams are going to replicate it and try to find different versions of it,” Mahomes said, per ProFootballTalk. “Two of the last three weeks they’ve seen the Broncos stifle our offense.”

It’s hard to think that this was the very same defensive unit that allowed the Miami Dolphins to put up 70 points in a single game against them.
The Broncos defense was supposed to be their cover letter and bigger strength this season, but it took them a while to show up.
They’re now 3-5 and the playoffs are still on the table, even though the remainder of their schedule is pretty brutal.
As for the Chiefs, they’re still tied for the best record in the AFC at 6-2, but they haven’t been as offensively dominant as they’ve usually been during the Mahomes era.
There’s still time to make some adjustments, but the Broncos have kind of exposed them twice this season, so other teams would be wise to take a look at Vance Joseph’s work.
