After upsetting the Buffalo Bills in Week 7, the New England Patriots came close to pulling off another surprising upset in their Week 8 matchup against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
Unfortunately for the Patriots, the Dolphins were eventually able to pull away in the fourth quarter, and New England wound up losing by a final score of 31-17.
However, the game wasn’t the only thing the Patriots lost during their trip to Miami this weekend.
During Sunday’s matchup, New England wide receiver Kendrick Bourne suffered a knee injury, and after further diagnosis, it was revealed on Monday that the veteran pass-catcher suffered a torn ACL (via NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo on Twitter).

Due to the severity of the injury, Bourne will miss the remainder of the 2023 season, and Sunday’s game against the Dolphins could wind up being his final appearance in a Patriots uniform.
The veteran wide receiver is currently scheduled to become a free agent in 2024, so he will be free to sign with any team in the NFL after the conclusion of the 2023 season.
Due to the injury he suffered on Sunday, Bourne’s best opportunity to remain in the NFL next season will likely come in the form of a one-year prove-it deal with a team willing to take a risk on him.
In eight games with New England this year, he managed to accumulate 37 catches for 406 yards and four touchdowns.
Are those numbers good enough for a team to take a risk on signing him in 2024?
Unfortunately, Bourne now has no choice but to wait and find out.
