So far this season, Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young has often struggled, but on Sunday, he showed a glimpse of what he may eventually become.
Against the Houston Texans and another rookie phenom QB named C.J. Stroud, he completed 22 of 31 pass attempts for 235 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers got their first win of the season, 15-13.
It wasn’t a dazzling performance, but he outplayed Stroud, who went 16 of 24 and didn’t throw a single touchdown pass.
London Fletcher of CBS Sports said that Young showed the traits and skill sets that a team wants to have in a signal-caller.

In particular, Fletcher pointed out the game-winning drive that Young led throughout the last six minutes or so of the fourth quarter that led to the decisive field goal by Eddy Pineiro with three seconds remaining.
Early in that drive, Young got sacked for the sixth time in the game, but he shook it off and gradually led Carolina downfield and into Houston territory.
During that drive, wide receiver Adam Thielen had two of his eight catches, and he finished the game with 72 receiving yards, giving him 581 receiving yards on the season, which is 11th in the NFL.
On the season, Young has completed 64.3 percent of his pass attempts for 1,202 yards and seven touchdowns against four interceptions in six games.
Surely, it will take a little time for him to develop into a good quarterback, and one must remember the struggles Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence had as a rookie before he played very well during the second half of the 2022 campaign.
