The New England Patriots are going through a rough 2023 NFL season, with the team winning only two games thus far and heading for a disappointing end to the year.
Even though things haven’t gone as planned for the Patriots this year, as the team clearly needs to make some drastic changes in the NFL offseason, New England has had some bright spots, like wide receiver Kendrick Bourne.
Bourne was well on his way to having a career year for the Patriots even while the team has been struggling overall, as he racked up 406 yards and four touchdowns on 37 receptions.
The 28-year-old was more than halfway to his career-high in receiving yards (800) and one touchdown away from matching his career-best total (5) in that category before going down with a torn ACL in Sunday’s loss to the division-rival Miami Dolphins.
After the news came out about the severity of Bourne’s injury and that he’d miss the rest of the season, Matthew Slater talked about the wide receiver and the kind of unique joy he plays the game with, via NBC Sports Boston.
“I don’t know that I’ve ever played with someone who has had the type of joy that Kendrick has.”

Clearly, Bourne has had a significant impact on the Patriots locker room and will be sorely missed by the team when they need him the most.
As if the season hadn’t gotten bad enough already, the team is now without its best wide receiver, which means things will get that much tougher for quarterback Mac Jones and the offense in general.
In Week 9, the Patriots will play host to the Washington Commanders, in which New England will be slight favorites to come out on top.
