The Texas Rangers, thanks to another Corey Seager home run and some inspired pitching by Max Scherzer and Jon Gray, stole back home-field advantage in the World Series and defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3-1, at Chase Field.
The win, however, was very costly at several levels.
Gray was forced into action to start the fourth inning, which was far from ideal since he was scheduled to take the ball in Game 4 on Tuesday.
Now, the reason why Gray had to take the ball in the fourth and pitch for three innings was because Monday starter Max Scherzer had to leave the game with back tightness.
In addition to that, AL Championship Series MVP Adolis Garcia also went down with an injury.
In the eighth inning, during his final at-bat, he reported some left side tightness after a swing and had to be removed from the game.
Hall of Famer and current analyst Derek Jeter wonders if Texas has what it takes to win it all while facing the prospect of being without Scherzer and Garcia for the rest of the series.
“‘If you’re going to win a championship, somebody else is going to have to step up.’ @derekjeter talks about the possibility of the Rangers having to play the rest of the World Series without Adolis Garcia and Max Scherzer,” MLB on FOX tweeted.

Nothing is official as of now: in both cases, they could return for the next game or in a couple of days, or they could be forced out of the series if tests return something.
It’s hard to see Scherzer pitching again, seeing how the pain clearly affected him when he had to come out.
Garcia might have better chances, but even if it’s not anything serious, he could miss a game or two.
It’s time for unexpected contributors to show up and aid the Rangers’ chances.
