The Minnesota Vikings may have won their Week 8 matchup against their NFC North rivals in the Green Bay Packers, but the team suffered a tough loss as Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles and will miss the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.
The Vikings announced that it was an Achilles injury when it occurred, though reporting immediately followed saying that the team feared Cousins tore the tendon.
Minnesota climbed back into the playoff race after reeling off three consecutive victories, but now will be without Cousins who was having one of the best seasons of his career.
The Vikings quickly pivoted at the trade deadline when they managed to acquire Joshua Dobbs from the Arizona Cardinals, but there’s no real way to replace Cousins.
Minnesota safety Camryn Bynum revealed what his and the rest of the team’s reaction was to the Cousins injury, via Jim Rome.
“That’s a hit for us, just seeing somebody like him go through that. That’s not easy for anybody,” Bynum said.

Bynum revealed that he and the defense were busy making adjustments and didn’t know that Cousins had gotten hurt.
He also said that the team was told it was a foot injury initially and thus wasn’t concerned about it right away.
However, he found out on social media that it was an Achilles injury which then shifted the mood of the locker room to a somber one.
Bynum ends the clip by saying he’s praying for Cousins and his family but he and the Vikings now have to try and make their postseason run without one of their leaders.
