The San Francisco 49ers have lost quite a bit of their former luster after losing their last three games to drop to 5-3 on the season.
Their defense, which was the best in the NFL last season, has developed cracks, and quarterback Brock Purdy has hit his first rough patch in the pros.
The last player chosen in the 2022 draft has thrown two interceptions for the second straight game, and plenty of people are now doubting whether he is the long-term answer for San Francisco under center.
Joy Taylor said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that Purdy is the Niners’ biggest concern because he needs to learn how to play well from behind.

Until these last three losses, Purdy had been playing very well dating back to Week 13 of last season, but he rarely had to play from behind during that time.
But his four interceptions in the last two games have all come in the second half while trying to lead a comeback.
Interestingly, other than those picks, Purdy has completed 43 of 61 passes in those two contests, and he still ranks second in passer rating and in the top 10 in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and completion percentage.
This week is San Francisco’s bye week, and it will do both them and Purdy a lot of good, as they can regroup and figure out how to get back on track.
On Tuesday, they pulled off a trade just before the deadline with the Washington Commanders for defensive end Chase Young, and Young should help add some juice to their front four.
