The Las Vegas Raiders are about to go through significant changes as a team.
They just fired Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler, leaving long-term gaps at head coach and GM.
With linebackers coach Antonio Pierce set as their interim, the Raiders might try a few things out during the back half of the season.
One change is slated to be at the quarterback position, as Aidan O’Connell could get the start at quarterback in Week 9, per Vinny Bonsignore via Dov Kleiman.

Josh McDaniels signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a $72.5 million contract in FA and he’s been a disaster, leading the NFL with 9 INTs.

As Kleiman pointed out, the Raiders moved on from Derek Carr in the offseason in favor of Jimmy Garoppolo.
While Garoppolo was expected to provide a jolt to this offense, he hasn’t played up to his typical standards.
He is the league’s leader in interceptions, an indication of how things are going.
O’Connell earned some attention during Training Camp and the preseason, giving fans someone exciting to watch at the position.
In his only game with meaningful playing time, O’Connell threw for 238 yards and an interception, adding in a rushing touchdown.
With the Raiders sitting at a 3-5 record, they seem apt to try anything to get through the rest of the season.
Starting O’Connell can either help solidify a better draft position next year or help give him a leg to stand on as the team’s starter moving forward.
Either way, this seems like a win-win situation for the Raiders, who have not been happy with Garoppolo’s play thus far.
What this team will look like under O’Connell remains to be seen.
