This past offseason, the Dallas Cowboys decided to move on from longtime running back Ezekiel Elliott and give Tony Pollard the opportunity to be a full-time starter in their offensive backfield.
Pollard has seen an increase in his touches this year, however, it hasn’t resulted in more production out on the field field for the Cowboys running back.
In three of his last four games, Pollard has finished with fewer than 65 total yards, and he hasn’t scored a touchdown since Dallas’ win over the New York Giants all the way back in Week 1.
On Wednesday, the Cowboys’ top running back spoke with some members of the local media, and he shared his belief that he’s going to have a big performance in the near future (via The Athletic’s Jon Machota on Twitter).

Last season, when he and Elliott split the touches in the backfield, Pollard wound up rushing for 1,007 yards and nine touchdowns on 193 carries (5.2 average per attempt), in addition to catching 39 passes for 371 yards and three more scores.
This year, he’s on pace to almost triple his single-season career highs for total touches, but he’s also on pace to end up with just 81 more total yards than the amount he finished with during the 2022 campaign.
Pollard’s first opportunity to have that big game that he says is coming will be on the road in a tough Week 9 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Anything is possible, but against an Eagles defense that has kept their opponents under 100 rushing yards in seven of their eight games this season, it seems like Pollard will have to wait at least one more week to have that big performance.
