Since he became the full-time starting quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018, all Patrick Mahomes has done is win two NFL MVP awards, lead his team to a pair of Super Bowl wins, earn two First-Team All-Pro selections, and be voted to the Pro Bowl five times.
Mahomes is still playing at a high level this season, as he’s helped lead the Chiefs to a 6-2 record, which is currently tied for the best record in the AFC heading into Week 9.
However, there are some who believe there is at least one quarterback from around the league who has been performing better than the Kansas City signal-caller this season.
On Thursday, ESPN’s Harry Douglas declared that Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is someone who has been playing better than Mahomes during the first half of the 2023 campaign (via Get Up on Twitter).
“Yeah, [Tagovailoa is playing better than Mahomes]. You look at Tua, he’s top five in touchdowns, top five in yards, top five in QBR. He’s been phenomenal this season.”

In eight games this season, Tagovailoa has completed 70.4 percent of his passes, and he’s already thrown for 2,416 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Judging from his numbers, there is certainly a case to be made that Tagovailoa has performed better out on the field this season than Mahomes.
Mahomes and Tagovailoa will get to go head-to-head this weekend when the Dolphins and Chiefs face off in a Week 9 matchup that will take place in Frankfurt, Germany.
Will Sunday’s meeting between Miami and Kansas City be Tagovailoa’s opportunity to prove that, at least for this year, he’s a better quarterback than Mahomes?
Or will the two-time league MVP remind everyone why some already consider him to be one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the sport?
