Jelena Ostapenko has Iga Swiatek’s number, and she proved it once again with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 victory in the Qatar Open semifinals. The 2017 French Open champion has now extended her head-to-head dominance over the Polish superstar to 5-0, making her the only player to achieve this feat at the WTA level.
Swiatek, a five-time Grand Slam champion, entered the match hoping to finally get a win over Ostapenko, but the Latvian’s aggressive, all-out attacking style once again proved too much for the world No. 2.
Ostapenko’s 5-0 Dominance Over Swiatek
- 2021 Eastbourne (Grass) – Won in two sets
- 2021 Indian Wells (Hard) – Won in two sets
- 2022 Dubai (Hard) – Won in three sets
- 2023 US Open (Hard) – Won in three sets
- 2025 Qatar Open (Hard) – Won in two sets
While top players like Aryna Sabalenka (4-8) and Elena Rybakina (4-3) have had some success against Swiatek, no one has a perfect record like Ostapenko—and the Latvian is showing no signs of slowing down.
Ostapenko: “I Knew I Would Beat Her”
Following her blistering win, Ostapenko made a bold and confident statement, revealing that she was fully expecting another victory against Swiatek.
“I feel like this court has a special energy and it was always helping me. As I said, everything started for me here on this court,” Ostapenko said.
“Today I went on the court and I was pretty confident that I would beat her because we played a lot of matches and I know how to play against her. I was more focused on myself and knew what I had to do.”
“I’m really happy with the way I’m handling my emotions this week. I’m just so happy to be in the finals.”
What’s Next for Ostapenko?
