The Tampa Bay Rays have been MLB’s premier franchise when it comes to doing a lot with little resources.
They routinely rank near the bottom of the league in total payroll, yet they always find a way to compete because they produce their own players to their liking.
They know what to prioritize and how to improve certain processes when it comes to scouting and player development.
They might not spend a lot on free agents, but they create their own stars and always make sure to prioritize and generate quality depth.
Off the field, at the front office level, they also produce and mold a lot of talent.
Andrew Friedman, Chaim Bloom, Eric Neander, and Peter Bendix are all from the Rays school, among others.
If there is a franchise that owners around the league would love to follow its blueprint, it’s certainly the Rays because the cost per win is smaller than most and owners, of course, are always thinking about profit.
The Miami Marlins are the latest franchise to hire a former Rays executive, per MLB insider Jeff Passan.
“The Miami Marlins are hiring Peter Bendix to run their baseball-operations department, sources tell ESPN. Bendix, 38, ascended from intern to general manager with the Tampa Bay Rays, and from the beginning he was at the top of the Marlins’ list of potential candidates,” he tweeted.
He will be replacing Kim Ng, who is now without a job after leading the Marlins to the postseason.
“Bendix’s hiring, first reported by @Ken_Rosenthal, reinforces the reality that the Marlins want to model themselves after the Rays. Bendix will replace Kim Ng, who left the Marlins as general manager after the team proposed hiring a president of baseball operations over her,” Passan also wrote.

The important thing here is patience.
Will the Marlins have enough patience to keep their plan and stick with their project?
Only time will tell.
