The New York Jets failed to get the job done vs. the Los Angeles Chargers, but the defense cannot be blamed for the loss.
If anything, Jeff Ulbrich’s units had one of its best performances of the season, at least when it came to stopping the pass.
As pointed out by Michael Nania, the Jets’ defense completely dominated Justin Herbert, holding him to a career-low 136 passing yards, and sacking him five times (tied for career-high), and a 65.4 passer rating (second-worst of his career and season-low), and 4.5 yards per attempt (the third-worst mark of his career).
What the #Jets defense did to Justin Herbert yesterday should not go overlooked because of the offense.
– 136 pass yds (Career-low)
– 5 sacks taken (Tied for career high)
– 65.4 passer rating (Season-low and 2nd worst of career)
– 4.5 Y/A (3rd-worst of career)

Unfortunately, Zach Wilson had another subpar outing, mostly because he didn’t have any sort of time or space to operate behind his shaky offensive line.
The Chargers aren’t known for their defensive prowess, yet they managed to get to him eight times, and he fumbled three times.
The Jets were riding a three-game winning streak, and with the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots struggling to find consistency this season, the playoffs weren’t out of reach by any means.
They still have a chance to make it, but the next month will be crucial, as they have back-to-back divisional contests against the Bills and Dolphins.
Needless to say, their offense will need to fare much better this time around, as no one can win with just field goals.
The Jets are resilient and deserve a lot of credit for what they’ve done without Rodgers.
Unfortunately, it just might not be enough in today’s pass-happy National Football League.
