The Las Vegas Raiders desperately needed a change of direction.
The players weren’t responding to head coach Josh McDaniels, and all the reports that have surfaced since his departure make it seem like the situation was unsustainable.
One of the wildest rumors was that now interim HC Antonio Pierce tried to inspire players by talking about the New England Patriots and how the New York Giants managed to step up and beat them.
To that, McDaniels stepped up and told him never to talk about the Patriots.
However, it seems like that part of the story isn’t true.
Talking to Will Compton, Raiders star Maxx Crosby stated that, even though Pierce did mention the Patriots, McDaniels never clapped back at him or told him not to talk about his former team (via Will Compton).
Asked @CrosbyMaxx about the team meeting that took place with the Raiders last week
A rumor was going around that Coach McDaniels got upset over a Patriots comment made by Coach Pierce

Crosby stated that the meeting was quite emotional and that everybody said a piece of their mind.
Crosby also added that it was one of the most real meetings he had ever been a part of and that he was irritated that the information from the meeting got out.
It’s possible that McDaniels wasn’t the right guy for the Raiders, but it’s also possible that the players never gave him a chance.
However, the Raiders do seem lighter, happier, and more committed now that Pierce has taken over.
As for McDaniels, perhaps now he’ll get the chance to go back to New England, the place where he’s found the most success in the past.
