A Legal Maneuver Delays Jerry Jones’ Assault Lawsuit Trial Once More
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has found himself embroiled in a legal battle off the football field, as he successfully secures yet another postponement for his assault lawsuit trial. The saga began when a woman from South Carolina filed a lawsuit against Jones in 2020, alleging assault. Despite the case being dismissed in 2022, an appeal kept it alive, leading to a scheduled jury trial on March 3. However, in a recent development reported by the Dallas Morning News, Jones has managed to delay the trial until August 11, 2025, marking the second postponement after the initial court date was set for March 18, 2024.
Legal Maneuvering: The Path to Postponement
During a hearing presided over by Dallas County District Court Judge Aiesha Redmond, Jones’ legal team successfully argued for the trial date extension based on an affidavit filed by Jones. The affidavit stated his lack of recollection regarding the alleged encounter with the woman, where she claims he forcibly kissed her and engaged in other inappropriate behaviors in 2018 at the AT&T Stadium. Notable figures like former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, players Ezekiel Elliott, Tyrone Crawford, Tyron Smith, and DeMarcus Lawrence, as well as Jones’ wife Eugenia Jones, were purportedly witnesses to the incident.
The Legal Battle Unfolds: Plaintiff’s Perspective
The woman’s attorney, Thomas Bowers, expressed frustration over the repeated delays, emphasizing his client’s readiness to proceed with the trial. The plaintiff seeks over one million dollars in damages for severe emotional distress, psychological pain and suffering, and severe injuries allegedly inflicted by Jones during the encounter. This prolonged legal tussle has put a spotlight on Jones’ off-field conduct and the gravity of the accusations leveled against him.
Past Legal Entanglements: A Pattern Emerges
This is not the first time Jones has navigated legal challenges outside the football arena. In July 2024, he reached a settlement in a paternity lawsuit brought by Alexandra Davis, who claimed to be his biological daughter. By avoiding a trial in that case, Jones managed to sidestep a potentially damaging legal battle. These successive legal entanglements have raised questions about Jones’ personal and professional conduct, casting a shadow over his public image. As the assault lawsuit trial looms once again, the outcome remains uncertain, underscoring the complexity of legal proceedings involving high-profile individuals.
