Some people aren’t cut out to be head coaches in the National Football League.
That doesn’t mean they’re not good coaches, however, and it’s perfectly fine to spend your entire career as an assistant.
Notably, that might be the case with Josh McDaniels, who was recently fired by the Las Vegas Raiders and has now had two failed stints as a head coach.
According to a report by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler (via Dov Kleiman), McDaniels’ poor people skills and workplace culture were the two biggest issues that led to his firing.

Apparently, the players felt overworked at times, and his lack of people skills was also a factor during his first failed tenure as a head coach.
One didn’t have to be inside the Raiders’ locker room to notice that the players weren’t invested or happy to be there.
Some players don’t respond to tough love, especially when it comes from a coach who didn’t play the game at a high level.
All things considered, it’s hard to envision another team giving McDaniels a third opportunity as head coach, at least for the foreseeable future.
However, he did find some success with the New England Patriots as an offensive coordinator, so there’s a chance someone else will give him a chance to fill that position.
As for the Raiders, the players looked ecstatic at the fact that former LB Antonio Pierce would lead them from now on, at least for the remainder of this season.
