The Seattle Seahawks were one of the NFL’s most surprising teams throughout the 2022 season.
After trading away Russell Wilson, fans were unsure what the team’s future would look like, especially at the quarterback position.
Geno Smith stepped up in a big way, not only playing well enough to get a contract extension but also leading his team to the playoffs.
The Seahawks have started the first eight games of 2023 with a winning record, which is not something to scoff at.
However, their offense has not looked as potent as it did last year, causing concern among fans and analysts.
Smith recognized this in a recent press conference shared via Michael-Shawn Dugar.
“Can’t have any more turnovers,” Smith said, adding, “That’s something I know I can fix and I can correct.”
Geno Smith on importance of getting back to protecting the ball.
“I gotta fix it. It starts with me.”
Then Geno was asked if process of turnovers has revealed a commonality.
“Trying too hard, pressing, trying to make plays sometimes when they aren’t there.”

The Seahawks currently hold a 5-3 record, which has them tied with the San Francisco 49ers for first in the NFC West.
However, as Smith points out, he has thrown too many interceptions this season.
If this trend continues, it could spell disaster for the Seahawks, especially against elite defenses like the 49ers.
Smith has thrown nine touchdowns to seven interceptions, a significantly worse ratio than he had last year.
For further context, Smith ended 2022 with 30 touchdown passes and just 11 interceptions.
If he can turn things around as he mentioned in the press conference, both Smith and the Seahawks should be fine moving forward.
Their next two games are against the Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Rams, a chance for them to get back on track before facing the 49ers in Week 12.
