Ian Jackson, North Carolina Tar Heels’ freshman guard, has been creating quite a stir in the American Collegiate Athletic Conference (ACC). Despite a recent slowdown following a promising start to the season, Jackson’s latest performances demonstrate a bounce-back potential that is turning heads. His impressive season statistics and a steady climb up draft boards have positioned him as one of the most valuable two-way guards to watch out for in the 2025 NBA draft.
While the Tar Heels may not have had the most stellar season, currently with a 16-11 overall record and a 9-6 in the ACC, Jackson has been a silver lining. Known for his explosive athleticism, solid on-ball feel, and promising jump shooting, Jackson has consistently demonstrated why he is living up to the hype.
Having played 26 games so far into the season, Jackson boasts an average of 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, one assist, and 0.7 steals per game. His shooting stats are equally impressive, with a 47% field goal shooting rate, 38.5% from beyond the arc, and a 72.8% free throw rate. His scoring prowess was on full display between December 21 and January 15, where he scored 20 or more points in six out of seven games.
Even though his scoring rate has taken a slight dip since this impressive run, Jackson seems to be regaining momentum. This is evident in his back-to-back performances against Syracuse and North Carolina State in mid-February. In the 88-82 win against Syracuse, he netted 23 points, four rebounds, one steal, and one block, while shooting 8-of-15 from the field, 5-of-10 from three-point range, and 2-of-6 from the free throw line. Notably, this was his second time of the season hitting five three-pointers in a single game.
In the subsequent 97-73 victory over North Carolina State, Jackson, although not as productive, proved his efficiency in limited playing time. In the 21 minutes he was on the court, he contributed 12 points, two rebounds, and one assist while shooting 4-of-6 from the field, 2-of-2 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. This marked his first 100% three-point shooting rate since November. If he can maintain this level of efficiency for the remainder of the season, his stock in the upcoming NBA draft is expected to continue rising.
Jackson’s unique blend of athleticism, scoring aptitude, and defensive tenacity make him one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2025 NBA draft. As the season approaches its end, his ability to maintain consistent, efficient performances will be crucial in solidifying his position as a top-tier draft pick.
