The Milwaukee Brewers won the NL Central this year, but were swept in the Wild Card round by the Arizona Diamondbacks and then lost their manager, Craig Counsell.
Not only did they lose him, but he was hired by the Chicago Cubs, a team that is considered a direct competitor by Milwaukee.
Long story short, things haven’t been going well in Milwaukee after the culmination of the 2023 regular season.
Counsell was considered a big part of their success with his ability to communicate with players, understanding of the modern game, and other intangibles.
Now that he is gone, they will have to replace him.
According to recent reports, the team has made up its mind regarding Counsell’s replacement.
“A source confirmed to MLB dot com @Ken_Rosenthal‘s report that the Brewers are finalizing plans to promote Pat Murphy to manager. It’s expected they will name former Milwaukee infielder Rickie Weeks to fill Murphy’s former spot on the staff. The club has not confirmed,” Brewers insider Adam McCalvy tweeted.

Murphy, 64, has a background as a coach, manager, and even as a special assistant to baseball operations.
He has occupied just about every role there is in baseball throughout his career.
He had a 96-game stint in 2015 as the manager of the San Diego Padres and a long career as a head coach in college baseball.
He was Counsell’s bench coach from 2016 to 2023 and is a veteran, respected voice in the world of baseball.
Brewers players know him and will be led by a familiar face.
