The world of baseball got some really bad news on Tuesday, as it was reported that San Diego Padres chairman and owner Peter Seidler passed away at 63 years old.
The organization released a statement on his passing.
They announced his passing “with profound sadness” and extended their condolences to Seidler’s family.
They also stated that beyond his contributions as owner and chairman, Seidler was at his core a Padres fan.

Seidler has been linked to the Padres since 2012, when his uncle Peter, Ron Fowler, and himself formed the O’Malley Group that purchased the franchise from John Moores.
He has been the majority owner since 2020, when he acquired part of Fowler’s stake.
The Padres have been to the playoffs twice since Seidler took over in 2012: a Division Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020, and last year’s NL Championship Series defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Seidler, through his president of baseball operations A.J. Preller, had been able to lure top talent to the city in recent years, though.
They traded for Yu Darvish, Blake Snell, Juan Soto, and others, plus signing free agents Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado, Ha-Seong Kim, and others.
His Padres were good enough to make the playoffs this past season, but finished 82-80 and failed in that quest.
In life, besides his experience with the Padres, Seidler was the founder and managing partner of Seidler Equity Partners, a private equity firm.
