The NFL is filled with rich history and traditions.
One of the many traditions within the NFL has been the league MVP award, an honor many hold in high regard.
While this award is technically open to players of any position, it has been dominated by quarterbacks lately.
The last non-quarterback to win MVP was Adrian Peterson in 2012.
This came on the heels of a dominant season, which is what it took for a running back to take home this award.
Despite the run of quarterbacks to take home MVP, the 2023 season has not seen a dominant performance to declare a front-runner.
However, Robert Griffin III does not believe the award should go to a quarterback this year.
He recently put together a top-five list of MVP candidates, which included A.J. Brown and Tyreek Hill at the top of the list.
This is followed by Tua Tagovailoa, Dak Prescott, and C.J. Stroud.

Griffin has Brown and Hill as his two favorites for the award.
Could 2023 be the year when this award changes course?
Brown and Hill have both achieved over 1,000 receiving yards on the season.
Hill has a narrow lead over Brown in overall yards, receptions, and touchdowns, but Brown is right on his tail.
Both receivers are putting together career years, and there is a chance that one of them could top the 2,000 mark for the first time in league history.
If that does happen, the voting committee might be forced to make a decision, breaking the precedent for one of these elite receivers.
