It didn’t take long before the Las Vegas Raiders realized that Josh McDaniels wasn’t the right guy to lead their project.
He wasn’t even able to finish his second season in charge of the team, and judging by the players’ reactions, it seemed like it was about time.
However, as poorly as he’s fared in his two stints as head coach, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated wanted to remind everyone that he’s done a solid job of developing quarterbacks.
Developed Matt Cassel, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Jacoby Brissett, and all three became starters. Got, by far, the best year out of Mac Jones’ three as a pro. It didn’t work out as a HC. But if you don’t think Josh McDaniels can coach quarterbacks, you’re blind. https://t.co/v1UljD0QWw

It’s a fact that Mac Jones had the best year of his career with McDaniels.
And yes, Jimmy Garoopolo and Jacoby Brissett both went on to become starters, but it’s not like they became stars.
At the end of the day, McDaniels only found success as an offensive coordinator when Tom Brady was in town.
His offensive system is stagnant and somewhat outdated, and he’s just another example of a Bill Belichick assistant failing to establish himself away from Foxborough.
Even Belichick has failed to find any sort of success in the post-Tom Brady era, so perhaps the “Patriots Way” was kind of overrated and was mostly thanks to the all-time great quarterback they had.
McDaniels will likely never get another chance to be a head coach, or at least it’ll take a very long time before another team shows an interest in making a run at him.
As for being an offensive coordinator, he should get another opportunity somewhere down the line, and that’s when we’ll see how good he is.
