As the year 2025 dawned, golf pro Jordan Spieth was hopeful for a fresh start, having endured nearly two years of wrist complications. However, his re-entry into the competitive golf scene has not been as smooth as anticipated.
In the summer of last year, Spieth underwent wrist surgery and had since been looking forward to his return. He finally made his reappearance at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier this month marking his first competitive game in more than five months. Unfortunately, his grand return was marred by early frustrations.
In a recent revelation at the WM Phoenix Open, Spieth admitted that he had re-injured his wrist at his very first hole at Pebble Beach. The golf star explained, “I had to flick one and it jammed. It locked up on me for a while. My wrist kind of hurt in the first round last week, and I had to abandon the work I had been doing just to manage what I could.” Despite the persistent discomfort, Spieth soldiered on, shooting 2-under 70 in the first round.
However, Spieth found no reprieve at the Genesis Invitational, where again his wrist proved problematic, leading to him missing the cut. He described the past week as being challenging for his wrist, “If I had hit one more shot like my shot on 16 yesterday, I wouldn’t have been able to finish the first round. The cold, wet weather and three consecutive weeks of playing have not been conducive to the healing of my wrist.” Spieth, however, is not one to back down and is prepping to test his fortunes at the Cognizant Classic.
Spieth candidly spoke about the level of patience required to make a return to the PGA Tour. He compared his early return to that of a low- to mid-single-digit handicapper working his way up, a journey he admits did not quite pan out as he had hoped. However, he acknowledged that his game improved as the tournament progressed. His struggle, though unique, is one he hopes not to repeat and certainly doesn’t wish on anyone else.
The saga of Spieth’s wrist injury is ongoing, and we will continue to report as the story develops. The golf star’s journey, filled with resolve and determination, serves as a testament to his sporting spirit. As he faces his trials head-on, fans and followers eagerly await the return of Spieth’s top form.
