The NFL has always been a “what have you done for me lately” league.
Many former great players will be thrown to the wayside if they do not produce.
That certainly looks to be what happened with former NFL MVP Cam Newton.
Newton has not played in the NFL since 2021 when he played eight games for the Carolina Panthers.
But, he has not been an effective NFL player since the 2018 season.
Yet, Newton is still open to playing again in the NFL.
But, no teams have shown interest in him.
Newton went on the “Dan Patrick Show” to discuss his future in the NFL.
He said, “It doesn’t matter how many times you call, if they don’t want you, they’re not going to pick up.”
Cam Newton says it’s been 2 years since a team has called him about playing. Also says that he’s had “a lot of interest” in returning, but hasn’t reached out to teams.

It seems like Newton has a slim chance of ever returning to the NFL.
Even with all of the quarterback injuries this year, he cannot get a call from an NFL team.
Newton was once one of the game’s best players.
But, his body has worn down over the years.
His dual-threat ability caused him to take plenty of unnecessary hits that cost him later in his career.
If we never see Newton in the NFL again, he should still be proud of what he accomplished.
His 2015 season was the best in Panthers history and one of the best of all time.
He scored 45 touchdowns that year and led the Panthers to the Super Bowl.
Newton lived up to the hype of being a first-overall pick.
It would not be a surprise to see him in the Panthers Hall of Fame one day.
