In MLB, having a great farm system is very important.
Not only does it guarantee that there will be talented (and cheap) players contributing to the major league team eventually, but it also represents more assets to offer in trades.
Rebuilding teams are always on the lookout for quality prospects, and even those in contention are also open to receiving them depending on the circumstances.
In this case, the Chicago Cubs are trying to leverage one of the best farms in MLB into real, ready-to-contribute stars.
“I’m hearing the Cubs have talked to the Blue Jays about Bo Bichette, who would play 3B for the Cubs. This was first hinted at by @KFidds yesterday and @jonmorosi mentioned the Cubs interest in Bichette last year. Bichette is signed through 2025 and would cost big return,” Matt Cozzi, host of the Locked On Cubs podcast, tweeted.

Bichette had a .814 OPS and hit 20 home runs last season in just 135 games.
For his career, he is a .826 OPS hitter with enough power and speed to contribute 20 homers and 20 steals per year for at least a few more seasons.
Oh, and the lowest batting average he has had in his career has been .290, in 2022.
In short, he is a steady offensive producer in his prime.
That makes him really valuable, so the Cubs would have to get creative to lure the Jays into doing that trade.
Toronto would want more than just prospects: they are also contenders.
One thing is clear, though: the Cubs are aiming high when it comes to offseason targets.
They are interested in Shohei Ohtani, and have now been linked to Bichette.
The future is bright in Chicago.
