The Denver Broncos were on the wrong side of countless jokes and memes last season.
And things didn’t get off to a good start this year, which led to a lot of people criticizing Russell Wilson again.
Even when he played well, fans and analysts talked about Wilson being done and how Sean Payton needed to move on from him.
Fast forward to today, and the Broncos are now the hottest team in the entire league, and a lot of that has had to do with Wilson’s stellar play.
As pointed out by Broncos’ beat reporter Zac Stevens, Wilson is currently top-five in the league in passing touchdowns (19), touchdown percentage (6.4), interception percentage (1.3), passer rating (104.3), fourth-quarter comebacks (4), and game-winning drives (4).
Russell Wilson is top 5 in the NFL in:
— Passing TDs (19)
— TD % (6.4)
— INT % (1.3)
— Passer rating (104.3)
— 4th quarter comebacks (4)
— Game-winning drives (4)— Zac Stevens (@ZacStevensDNVR) November 23, 2023
The Broncos’ defense carried the load last season, but their offense was unable to get anything going for the most part.
Wilson failed to develop any sort of chemistry with his wide receivers, struggling with his progressions and not being able to hit them in stride.
That hasn’t been the case at all this season.
While neither Jerry Jeudy nor Courtland Sutton have broken out as top-notch wide receivers as some people expected, he’s still been able to spread the wealth and keep the chains moving week in and week out.
Wilson and the Broncos will now face their toughest challenge yet.
They’re set to host the best defensive unit in the league when they square off vs. the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, and that’ll give them the perfect chance to make a statement and prove that he’s still far from done.
