The MLB universe is paying close attention to the free agent market, now that players are officially allowed to sign with teams of their liking.
We have had a few signings, but the biggest names available are far from committing their future to a team.
Are they, though?
Howie Rose, a longtime radio play-by-play voice of the New York Mets, shared a vague update on the biggest free agent on the market: Shohei Ohtani.
Hearing there might be Ohtani news today.

He said there “might be Ohtani news today,” on Friday.
However, it is highly unlikely that Ohtani signs in November.
We might be looking at December or perhaps even January for the two-way star to decide his next destination.
There is just too much at stake, and teams are still probably preparing their pitches and best offers.
Still, “news” might not necessarily mean a signing, so there is a chance Rose is right.
In any case, we will be paying close attention to any potential developments on the Ohtani front.
The free agent is likely to sign the biggest contract in MLB history, breaking Mike Trout’s $426.5 million commitment in 2019.
Ohtani just won his second MVP award after posting a 3.14 ERA and 167 strikeouts as a pitcher and hitting 44 home runs with a 1.066 OPS as an offensive player.
He is unique, and even though he won’t pitch in 2024, he will be a very wealthy man in a matter of weeks.
Recent reports suggest that he might even surpass the $500 million threshold.
He is more than worth it.
