The start of the New York Mets’ offseason has been crucial to shape the future of the franchise.
And no, there still haven’t been any major player acquisitions.
However, the team finally appointed their preferred president of baseball operations, David Stearns, named Carlos Mendoza as their manager, and recently appointed veteran John Gibbons as his bench coach.
Now, according to team insiders, they continue to fill their coaching staff.
“One other newcomer to the staff will be Mike Sarbaugh at third base. Returnees include Jeremy Hefner, Jeremy Barnes, Eric Chavez and Glenn Sherlock. @WillSammon, @Ken_Rosenthal, @martinonyc, @NYPost_Mets all reported various aspects of this,” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted.

Antoan Richardson had been a coach in the San Francisco Giants organization since 2020.
In February 2019, he was named as a field coordinator and minor league outfield coordinator.
Ahead of the 2020 campaign, he was named the Giants’ first-base coach, a role he retained until this past season.
As for Sarbaugh, he will now be the Mets’ third-base coach.
He has been around for much longer, having started his minor league coaching career in 1995.
He was named the third-base coach/infielders coach for the Cleveland in 2013 and worked in that organization until 2023.
The Mets are hoping to put together the right blend of experience and fresh ideas for 2024 as far as the manager and coaching staff is concerned.
This, in addition to bringing in a lot of talented people in the baseball ops department, can be the difference when it comes to building a sustainable, winning organization.
