The 2023 campaign was one of the most successful ones in recent memory for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
After not being in a National League Championship Series since 2007, they not only reached that in 2023, but made it all the way to the World Series.
Now, the Fall Classic exposed some of their weaknesses and roster deficiencies.
They entered the offseason with a few objectives, such as looking for one or two prominent hitters and a couple of pitchers, too, preferably starters.
After all, Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, and Brandon Pfaadt can’t do it all by themselves.
This week, the team addressed their need for a third baseman by trading for Eugenio Suarez.
Suarez’s acquisition improves the offense and gives it another reliable source of power and home runs.
Here is how the team’s defensive alignment and offense is looking, per FOX Sports MLB.

Gabriel Moreno is a defensive and offensive cornerstone at catcher, an exciting combination of current skill and ceiling.
Christian Walker hit 33 homers last year, and Ketel Marte helped with 25 and a .844 OPS.
Suarez, who once hit 49 dingers in a season, had 22 last year with the Seattle Mariners and is a reliable run producer.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is an underrated contributor, and Corbin Carroll (25 homers, 54 stolen bases, .868 OPS) is one of the game’s top stars and just won the Rookie of the Year award in the National League.
If Alek Thomas keeps developing and plays like he did in the postseason (four homers, .734 OPS) the D-Backs can take another step forward.
All things considered, Arizona has a good, young lineup with impressive contributors.
If they manage to fill out their rotation with quality depth, they could once again make noise in the playoffs next year.
