The New England Patriots are currently going through one of their worst seasons in recent memory, with the storied franchise really struggling to figure out how to turn things around and get back on track this year.
One of the biggest problems the team has faced over the past couple of seasons has been getting consistently good performances from whoever is under center at the quarterback position.
Even though Mac Jones made the Pro Bowl in his first season in New England, there’s been nothing but regression from the former Alabama star ever since, as he continues to take steps back rather than strides forward.
It has gotten so bad in New England that it appears the team is on the verge of benching Jones, with Bailey Zappe potentially getting the start this week against the New York Giants on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
Ahead of the clash with the Giants, Zappe was asked who would be the starting quarterback on Sunday in New York and gave the following answer, via NBC Sports Boston.
“Do you guys know who’s starting?”
Bailey Zappe: “No”

At this point in time, especially with the team sporting a record of 2-8, the writing seems to be on the wall in New England that Jones’ time as the team’s starting quarterback is over.
It’s been a nightmare of a season for Jones up to this point, as he has thrown for 2,031 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
Those kinds of numbers from a starting quarterback are not going to get a team very far in the NFL, which means a chance is warranted and potentially inevitable.
