The New York Jets‘ 2023 NFL season was doomed as soon as Aaron Rodgers went down with a torn Achilles.
Rodgers was brought in to carry the Jets over the hump and get them back into the Super Bowl, but after he got hurt the team has had to rely on a combination of Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle at quarterback.
Suffice it to say, Wilson and Boyle are nowhere near the caliber of signal caller that Rodgers is as both of them have looked disastrous in their starts.
New York was able to cobble together wins in the middle of the season, but since then the team has been in a spiral.
The Jets suffered another embarrassing loss in Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins and the offense was basically unwatchable the entire afternoon.
While fans are right to blame the front office for not having a better plan at backup quarterback, Matt Verderame believes the blame should fall on Rodgers for requesting the pieces he did.
“Let us never forget Aaron Rodgers was largely the architect of this offense. Wanted Tim Boyle. Wanted Allen Lazard. Wanted Randall Cobb. Wanted Nathaniel Hackett,” Verderame tweeted.

Given his status, Rodgers was obviously consulted on some of the personnel moves the Jets made in free agency and it’s fair to criticize him for bringing in people that he was familiar with during his time with the Green Bay Packers.
Although Rodgers had success with those individuals in the past, they are clearly not right for the current roster and now the entire organization must suffer for it.
