Following an entire offseason of hype and excitement, the New York Jets had the rug pulled out from under them back in Week 1 when All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles.
Following the news of the injury, most assumed Rodgers likely wasn’t going to return to the field this season, but he’s remained optimistic during his recovery process.
A recent report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport is only going to add to the speculation that the veteran quarterback is going to suit up again for the Jets before the end of the 2023 campaign.
According to Rapoport on Sunday, Rodgers could potentially return to practice for New York next week, and the quarterback is targeting the team’s Week 16 matchup on Christmas Eve against the Washington Commanders as a possible return date.

After 18 years with the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers was traded to the Jets this past offseason, and New York fans immediately began to dream about watching their team compete in the Super Bowl.
But the Achilles injury quickly put an end to those Super Bowl dreams, and despite the efforts of their talented defense, the Jets have only managed to win four of their 11 games this season.
New York had a 4-3 record after Week 8, but since then, the team has lost four games in a row and they have benched Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback.
Even if Rodgers is able to return in Week 16, will it be worth it if the Jets aren’t in contention to make the playoffs?
If New York continues to struggle, keeping Rodgers off of the field for the rest of the season might be the better option.
